Landscape evluation
I went into this project not feeling very confident as I don't think I have an eye for landscape and I find it hard to make my pictures look pretty ...well to me I don't like the look of them. I was very worried about using the field camera as it seemed fiddly to open and get it in its working position and to use the film, then the other problem I had was the film loading it in and out and hoping that I had put it in right. With me falling behind on this project I didn't have long to get it done and bought 14 films hoping that would help me get this project done in time. I started taking the pictures as I was researching so I was taking pictures of what I thought landscape is, I thought landscape was a distant type of shot trying to get an interesting horizon line. I was taking to the marina to start taking these photos, I did struggle with the camera and it didn't help that it was pouring down with rain. I couldn't do that many that day due to the weather the rain drops did get on the lenses and looking at the blur on them pictures I wondered weather that had anything to do with it, but the other pictures were dry and still blurred. The next time I went out with the idea to take pictures of Hartlepool from a hill a looking down on what looked like the coast up to Redcar and thought this was a perfect place to do this. While I was up on the hill I noticed rubbish had been dumped on this beautiful scenic place and thought it would be great to take this area to. But when I came to the dark room I noticed this negative had gone missing unfortunately it was the one with the rubbish which left me upset as I was very keen to see this image. After printing the finished images I was very disappointed as I hadn't realised that taking far distance photos with a fixed lens and printed in black and white would be a big problem. Im unhappy with my final images and really want to do them again as I feel I now know what type of things could be classed as landscape. I learned a lot from the research and never thought close up things could be classed as landscape to. I also feel confident in using the field camera now after a couple of times of been shown I was happy to go out on my own and take the pictures. Im happy I did manage to do this project as I feel more knowledgeable in landscape and feel it has opened my eyes on what landscape photography can come under and would feel confident if I needed to do it again. I went to see Steven and Tim to ask why all my photos focused in the middle and blurred the outside and they said i may have had the lens on a tilt or the negative was bend in the enlarger.
