North East Stories - Research- Part one of the project

Im not sure how i can go into how im researching this part of the project as ive been told to keep it to myself so it can be discussed when the hand in date comes around. But what i can say is i was very much givin the idea and inspiration from a lecture i had with Antony when he was showing us photographers and there one images that tell a story. When he showed us a painting called Ophelia which is a story. The story of Ophelia is told in Shakespheres Hamlet and is about a woman who was to marry Hamlet and she went to a brook to collect flowers and she fell into the water and drownd "incapable of her own distress" She just lay there for a while before her dress filled with water and pulled her to the debths.
After he should us this painting he then showed some photographers take on this painting and story.

The above Photograph is by Tom Hunter and this is his version of Ophelia

The above image is by Gregory Crewdson and again his version of Ophila.

I felt very much inspired by this type of photography and recreating so i have picked my own story and intend on recreating my own Ophilia at some point to.

North East Stories -Research - Seance/Table tipping

I tryed taking the Seance/ Table tipping but im not sure if these photos will work as to me just more looks like a snap shot rather than a photograph also there was not much activity with the tables so i could photograph reactions the most the table did was vibrate. So i may just do the transfig part instead of trying to fit everything in and have some photos let my project down. I was trying to give it an on location feel to the photos but im not sure how i can give them more of the type of look that im looking for. Heres some more Photographs of the Seance/ Table tipping so you can see what i mean.

DO NOT TRY THIS WITHOUT ANYONE TRAINED OR WITH OUT EXPERIANCE IN THIS TYPE OF SPOOKY ACTIVITY!!

North East stories -Research- Transfig

Well I rented the studio out on Thursday to start doing my Photographs for my story part of my project, I had a lot of people wanting to come and volenteer to help me do the pictures and as far and i think i may have a story developing. This was one part i was wanting to do this is transfig and as you can see involves sitting infront of a candle. I may need a couple more attemps but here is some pictures so far

THIS SHOULD NOT BE ATTEMPTED WITHOUT SOMEONE WHO IS TRAINED TO MAKE SURE NOTHING GOES WRONG!!

North East Stories-Research - Victorian Seance

ok i now think im getting somewhere now with my ideas. I was talking with Antony the other day when i came up with this idea after he said do something that is familar to you.

Before i started to do photography i did a development class to learn mediumship. I loved it as a result of this i have taken part in seances, exercisms, rescues, healing, table tipping, tranfig, cardreadings, object reading aura clenses and trance, now some of these have been very scarey episodes in my life but everything an experiance and i loved every minute of it. I still practice some of these to this day not all of them as i need help from other people. I have decided to use my experiance and use these types of things in my North East Stories because i think these type of photos could have a strong narritive.

The photo above is a victorian seance which means a connection with spirit, and i am wanting to recreate this in some of my photos .

The picture above is what a transfig looks like, This is where you sit infront of the candle and you invite only good spirits to approch you at this point the shadows on your face from the candle alter the features in your face  for eg if it was an egyption that was near the shadows of your hairline would change, the shadows round your eyes change and look like the eye make up they used sometimes the sitter may get pains or feeling and this is how the spirit would have past over. This is another i would like to recreate a photo.

The photo above is table tipping and is where everyone has their hands on the table and the table may start to move or dance around the room, I have not witnessed a table float tho. This another i want to take pictures of.

This is extoplasm and can happen to a medium during a seance this is what happens when the spirit is trying to manifest, I have only  sort of experince once. It happened to a friend but looked more like your breath on a cold morning and i had my eyes shut due to the seance so never witnessed it and was just told so i dont know weather this can happen, and if this did happen id have no photos of it due to me being the medium in question and also the one taking the photos.

I wont be staging any of these photos that i take weather it be reactions, shadows and anything else i pick up will be real. I have asked a brave few to help me out with this i have picked people that i think are emotional stable and can handle what happens, I have layed down a few rules for safty reasons as you can not go into this type of activity light hearted cos it will back fire
Rules
No.1 No alcoholic drinking that day
No.2 No Drugs
No.3 No Pregnant ladys
No.4 If you feel poorly that day i must be told as you will not be able to join in.
No.5 I must be told if you are frightened
No.6 A bottle of water must be bought with you

I will put a protection round the room from negative energy and close people down at the end of the night.

For my photography of this im thinking of borrowing a mark 2 d5 canon, tripod, and to see if i can get a remote to operate the camera from a distance so i am able to control all situations.....Hopefully i will get some good photos.

Professional studies research

I found this news arrival on the sky news website and thought it would be a good arrival to keep.

David Bailey: I Want To Entertain People

Richard Suchet, Arts and Entertainment Correspondent
David Bailey's Stardust at the National Portrait Gallery is a display of more than 250 images which have been personally selected and reprinted by the photographer himself.
The exhibition features iconic portraits of some of the world's most famous faces including John Lennon, Mick Jagger, Bob Dylan, Kate Moss, Andy Warhol, David Bowie, Nelson Mandela and Jack Nicholson.
Bailey told Sky News: "I thought I'd kind of make it entertaining and interesting. So I put in pictures which use lots of different techniques.
"I want people to come in, maybe learn something but be entertained as well. I don't want it to be sad and academic."
The exhibition takes up most of the museum's ground floor and is divided thematically into 19 different sections.
As well as fashion icons, models, musicians and actors, the photographs cover a vast range of subjects including his 1974 expedition to Papua New Guinea and the famine in east Africa in the 1980s.
But Bailey is perhaps best known for capturing - and even maybe helping to define - the Swinging Sixties.
Mick Jagger's ex-wife, the model and actress Jerry Hall, was one of those to be immortalised by David Bailey.
She said: "He reminds me of one of those 1930s film directors. You know, 'do this, do that'. It's all a bit of a comic thing.
"But all the time he is looking and looking for the picture and he has a great eye, he is a wonderful artist."
Bailey's Stardust opens at the National Portrait Gallery on Thursday.

Interesting to know how he feels the exhibitions should look like
